Theater Courses

Theater Arts. Open to all students. This is an activity based introduction to the many aspects of theater with a concentration on building basic communication skills and confidence. Topics include: movement, voice, improvisation, stage combat safety, elements of drama, evaluation of performances, ancient Greek Theater history, children’s theater, other cultures and acting. |

Advanced Theater Arts. Must take Theater Arts prior to this class. This class concentrates on performance skills. Students will perform in a variety of short plays for class and will also perform for the public. Students will apply acting technique to the roles they perform for audiences. Required rehearsals and performances will be held outside the school day. |

Advanced Acting. Must take Advanced Theater prior to this class. Students enrolled in Advanced Acting will be cast in productions performed to meet educational needs of students in other classes and at other grades and also be performed for the general public. Students will research, create, and perform characters through script analysis, observation, collaboration and rehearsal. Required rehearsals and performances will be held outside the school day. Field trip expenses vary. |

Technical Theater. Open to all students grades 9 – 12. Students develop skills through practice in the areas of set construction, scenic painting, costumes, make-up, properties, lights and sound. Crew work on Penn productions and concerts is required. |

Advanced Technical Theater. Must take Technical Theater prior to this class. Students continue to develop their skills in technical theater by concentrating their work on design and crew leadership. Skills in organization and interpersonal development are cultivated. Crew work on Penn productions and concerts is required. |
